Position Summary: The American University of Iraq, Baghdad is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant for the University Government Relations Department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to confidentiality and hold a bachelor’s degree in law. This role involves supporting the department’s administrative functions, ensuring smooth operations, and assisting in liaising with government entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the Director of Government Relations and the department.
- Manage and maintain schedules, appointments, and travel arrangements.
- Prepare, review, and file legal and government-related documents with a high degree of accuracy.
- Assist in the coordination of meetings, conferences, and events with government officials and other stakeholders.
- Handle confidential information with utmost discretion and professionalism.
- Draft correspondence, reports, and presentations as required.
- Maintain organized records and databases of government relations activities and documentation.
- Conduct research on relevant legal and regulatory issues affecting the university.
- Liaise with internal departments and external partners to facilitate communication and coordination.
- Perform other administrative tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related field is required.
- Previous experience in an administrative role, preferably within a government relations or legal environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Iraqi government procedures and regulations is an advantage.
