JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Network Engineer II provides technical engineering support for the Installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network equipment within the Balad/AFAB (Sallyport, BAN/ESS) Network Infrastructure, including Cisco Routers, Cisco ASR, Cisco Wireless Controllers, Cisco Switches, Cisco Nexus (Series), Cisco DNA, ISE, FortiGate firewalls, SonicWALL firewalls, FortiAnalyzer load balancers, VPN, QoS, CUCM, VoIP, and any other network devices.
- Troubleshooting and resolution of network issues involving various protocols, topologies, networking hardware, etc.
- Design network architectures based on customer requirements and industry best practices
- Development of unique solutions that will meet customer requirements and industry best practices
- Collaborate effectively with other IT disciplines (e.g., Infrastructure, Tech Support, Radio) to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems. Install, maintain, and evaluate network systems and communications systems.
- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
- Coordinates and drives configuration changes and hardware additions/replacements to LAN/WLAN/SD-WAN.
- Perform network upgrades and maintenance of existing network devices to ensure operating systems and hardware components are current and compliant.
- Perform network and security audits, review logs for errors and trends, and maintain proper security posture.
- Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures with the company’s security team.
- Ensure no changes are made to the network infrastructure without prior approval through the Change Request (CRQ) process and strictly adhere to company change management protocols.
- Optimize network traffic routing/switching and make updates to optimize efficiency.
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability; monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Takes ownership of planning and managing large and complex project tasks.
- Formulates network designs and solutions that ensure delivery of project requirements.
- Participate in network design and implementation projects as assigned.
- Evaluate existing network designs and make recommendations for improving efficiency, resiliency, and availability.
- Develops and delivers presentations to internal audiences
- Work with management to develop strategies for improving/enhancing the network infrastructure.
- Influences others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies, and practices
- Create and/or maintain network design diagrams and documentation.
- Work independently and collectively to help improve network solutions and contribute to network service improvements.
- Work with vendors and other IT personnel to find problem resolutions.
- Coaches and guides team members with less experience
- Maintain excellent communication with internal and external parties.
- Provide Level 2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
- Adhere to company IT security policies.
- Stay current with emerging network technologies and industry trends.
- Be On-Call for emergencies and support business-critical communication issues outside regular working hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or other related discipline.
- CCNP Enterprise Certification
- 7 to 10 years of experience working simultaneously on multiple enterprise networks and topologies (Required).
- 4 to 8 years of experience, preferably supporting mission-critical applications (Preferred).
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a Network Engineering role (Required).
- At least 6 years of experience in a Network Administration role (Required).
- A minimum of 6 years of experience with Cisco routers and switches, VoIP, network routing protocols, IP addressing, network infrastructure, and network hardware.
- 3+ years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing network solutions.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Computer Networking: 5 Years.
- Demonstrated ability to apply functional knowledge to analyze and resolve complex problems.
- Views processes and changes holistically, understanding the connections and impacts of changes on other processes and functions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external team members.
- Skilled in reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting data and documentation to make informed decisions regarding subsequent actions.
- Proven hands-on network engineering experience.
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPsec, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
- Familiarity with IP Address Management, DHCP, DNS, and load balancing.
- Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
- Experience collaborating with diverse technical teams across various IT-related skill sets.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with customer service orientation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team within an international and matrix organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS
- Required to work in an austere environment under extremely hot weather conditions.
- Physical requirements for this position may involve using heavy equipment, lifting items up to 35 pounds independently, and team lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Candidates must also have the physical ability to maneuver in tight spaces and be able to work in various positions, including sitting, squatting, standing, walking, climbing, and more.
